Sam Worthington to Replace Tom Cruise in ‘The Tourist’
Movie News By Neil Miller on August 4, 2009 | (2) Comments
Hollywood’s latest it man, Sam Worthington, has shown little acting chops to date. Sure, he co-headlined Terminator Salvation with Christian Bale earlier this summer, but that isn’t saying much — even Bale had an off-movie on that one. And sure, he’s James Cameron’s pick of the litter to lead the soon-to-be-mega sci-fi epic Avatar, but that’s not out yet.
Despite all that, Worthington continues to score big roles. He’s top-lining the upcoming remake of Clash of the Titans, and now he’ll be replacing Tom Cruise in the lead role in Bharat Nalluri’s The Tourist. Worthington will star alongside Charlize Theron as a man chosen by a female interpol agent to act as bait for a wanted criminal in France.
The film is based on a 2005 French film called Anthony Zimmer, directed by Jerome Salle. The American screenplay was written by Julian Fellows (Gosford Park), William Wheeler (The Hoax) and Chris McQuarrie (The Usual Suspect, Valkyrie). Filming is set to begin in January.
