This may currently be complete conjecture on the part of SuperHeroHype.com, but this much we know is true. If Peter Jackson was to produce The Hobbit, instead of direct it, then Sam Raimi wanted a chance at the director’s chair.

As of this morning Peter Jackson has confirmed that he is indeed going to produce both The Hobbit and its sequel (the book is to be split over two movies, rather than attempting to cram it all into a single 2 hours). Now, whether Raimi will actually abandon the fledgling Spider-Man 4 to tackle the Shire and all its stories, or stick around to work with his core cast (who all said that only if Raimi and their fellow cast members stuck around would they come back for a fourth edition of the Spidey saga) remains to be seen.

I’m not sure which one I’m more in favour of, but isn’t there a way to work it out fellas? Can’t we come to some sort of compromise? Though SuperHeroHype is speculating that even if Raimi did head to pastures new with The Hobbit, he would be involved with Spidey 4 as an executive producer, I would hope for something more like perhaps concurrent shoots, or (more logically speaking) back to back ones?

Talking Point: Which film do you think Raimi should direct: Spidey 4 or The Hobbit?
