Ryan Reynolds Officially Puts His Dick In the ‘Green Lantern’ Box

Yeah, yeah, so this headline doesn’t quite make as much sense as when it was Justin Timberlake in the favored spot, but we can’t always get what we want.

Speaking of not always getting what we want, The Hollywood Reporter is Hollywood reporting that Ryan Reynolds is the guy. He’s Hal Jordan. He’s The Green Lantern. End of story. Clearly, any finalized news was going to hit fans pretty hard in one direction or another, but this choice is one that I think will split a ton of the automatic audience for this film.

I say that mostly because:

  • Ryan Reynolds is a fantastic actor with great range; but
  • A lot of people have only seen him play himself in movies.
  • He’s charming and charismatic, but
  • That doesn’t really make him Hal Jordan.
  • He may be the best, most appealing choice for a comic book franchise; but
  • He already was the best, most appealing choice for a comic book franchise.

Whatever the case, it sounds like Bradley Cooper’s camp is probably a little disappointed in the choice – one that could have taken him to the next level of stardom even more so than his role in The Hangover. So are the Timberlake camps, and apparently the Jared Leto camp (a name which seems to always come out of nowhere whenever studios throw it around).

By now we all know that a decision was held up because none of the major entities could agree – which is good news. Here’s why:

After months of negotiations and a short list that was just a little too long, it seems like the screen tests for The Green Lantern are what put Reynolds over as the winner. Thus, Donald De Line (who is not a stupid man by any stretch of the imagination), director Martin Cambell, and Warners all came to a consensus after seeing what all of the choices would really look like as Jordan. It’s not much, but it’s definitely better than a blind choice at hoping someone is right for the role.

Enough from me. What do you think?

  • I like Reynolds, but I'm not sure I see him in this role. I would like to see him get his "pet project" of Deadpool off the ground. I read an interview with him about it and he really would like to be a true to the comic as possible, which you have to admit is refreshing to here.

I had forgotten he was in line for the Flash too. I could see him in that role as well.

Side note...I saw a Green Lantern "fan film trailer" created from clips from multiple movies over on you tube...it was actually pretty cool. Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern was a good choice.

Someone needs to put a lid on this guy, Can they really not find a better actor to play green lantern? this dude is played out already, and to make him 2 comics heroes is ridiculous

It doesn't really interrupt Deadpool because a stunt-man will play him. Reynolds is just the voice.

I'm pumped about this. In my opinion, JT isin't a good enough actor and Cooper doesn't embody Green Latern to me. Reynolds has really impressed me with his abilities over the years...I think "The Nines" did it for me.

  • hopefully he has more success than Halle Berry did swapping from the Marvel to DC universe.

Ryan Reynolds is that one actor that plays in mediocre comedies that you see when they are onDVD.

So is he still going to be Deadpool as well? What about The Flash, wasn't he the #1 choice for that role too?

I was wondering the same thing. I actually don't know much about Green Lantern, but if this role interfers with Deadpool (a character Reynolds may have been born to play) Greeen Lantern is dead to me.
  • I like Reynolds a lot, but he does look a little young. I think he was the best of the three, though. J.T.? No way. And Bradley Cooper looks like (and always plays) a douchebag and a weasel. That's not entirely fair, I know, but I like Reynolds in the role. Just hoping he can play it seriously.
