If there is one thing that we in the world of internet movie journalism do well (or not so well, depending on who you ask), it is feed on crazy rumors about all of the most anticipated projects in development. And it appears that Guy Ritchie’s production of Sherlock Holmes, which has Robert Downey Jr. set to star in the title role, is quickly becoming one of those projects. Not too long ago, rumors emerged that Russell Crowe was in talks to play Holmes’ sidekick Dr. Watson, but that was quickly turned around by studio sources.
Since then, more details have emerged from Latino Review, saying that Crowe could be in the movie, but as Professor Moriary instead. That leaves the role of Watson still to be set. Today, “sources” are telling the folks at JoBlo that Colin Farrell is in talks to star alongside Downey’s Holmes as Watson. While no official word has been said, this would be an interesting development. Farrell certainly wouldn’t be the first name I would think of when thinking about casting Watson, but then again, I wasn’t thinking about Downey as Holmes when he was picked. But before we get to that discussion, it is important to gauge this rumors validity. That leads me to my question:
Colin Farrell as Dr. Watson is Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes movie — are you buying it?
