My second favorite thing about Hideo Nakata is that his directorial debut in the United States was a sequel to a remake of his own film. My favorite thing, of course, is that he made me jump back three rows of theater seats with a soaking-wet girl crawling out of a television.

But the man is versatile, and it looks like he’ll be diving back into the thriller genre with a new film for Japanese production and talent house Horipro called Incite Mill.

Considering it rhymes, I have to assume it’s the sequel to Silent Hill.

According to Variety, the story is a thriller take on the reality television craze that’s been sweeping the nation for what seems like the past 30 years. It’s based off a novel in which 10 people are picked to live in a house and see what happens when people stop being polite and start killing each other for sport in an underground bunker.

I’d mock it for not being timely, but it sounds more like a classic Strangers in a House concept wrapped in a shiny Battle Royale-esque coating. And, for my money, there’s nothing sweeter.

Plus, Nakata has done thrills before, and done them well with Chaos. So, this seems ultimately promising.

I also can’t wait for the United States to remake it in 2011.
