Ridley Scott to Revisit Alien?

Fox co-chairman Tom Rothman doesn’t just want another Alien film. He wants Ridley Scott to come on board to direct. The first two Alien films were, in my opinion, the best of the quartet. It makes some sense to go back to Ridley Scott, director and creator of the original film Alien, to revisit the franchise. Rothman was interviewed at the red carpet premiere of Wolverine by Robert Sanchez of IESB.

There’s been some talk. Ridley Scott, Ridley is right now working on Robin Hood, but I think he’s toying with the idea and that would be great for us. I mean, it’s always been a matter of, really, if you can get the originator to do it that would be the greatest thing, so I’ve got my fingers crossed, all of them.”

The talk is about an Alien prequel as opposed to a sequel. Rothman went on to talk about the Predators franchise of which he now has total control with Robert Rodriguez at the helm also producing. Let’s hope that if there’s a new Alien film, the Predators won’t try to jump into it.

What do you think of an Alien prequel? How cool would it be to see Ridley Scott back in command?

i think it would be a good idea. the special effects would be exceptional but the acting would need to be really good
  • I never seen aliens but I have heard of the greatest movie ever made that if I seen it, I would die from watching because it so good to watch again and again, my doctor said that I would die from if I watched it, I don't believe that asshole, he just jealous that I haven’t seen it and he has when he was more younger. I need to see Aliens right now before they make a prequel! I not crazy or something, this was just a joke for fun for me to do for fun.

    Why a prequel?

I think Ridley Scott is an amazing director and clearly loves the SF genre. That is a great combination. I'm just not sure why they can't approach this in some other way than a prequel. Why not 500 years later? Why not in some other venue? The big problem with a prequel is that eventually, you know where this movie is leading which takes away some of the suspense.
  • I really home this comes together..it sounds as if there could be talks after Robin Hood...I always thought the only Alien prequel should be the story of Hadley's Hope....it was teased in Aliens and the director's cut made it more brooding that 158 humans still couldn't put up a fight against the xenomorphs...the whole "last stand" is something I would and many Alien fans are dying to see on screen....the best thing would be to have James Cameron write and Ridley direct...

Maybe this will be good, Or maybe they'll start out with an awesome script, then have to rewrite the entire movie so it could be shot in a warehouse because dumbass producers spend $7 million before they even hire a director, like they did with Alien 3.
  • "What?" Like I just said before, it was a joke not meant to be true.

If they could get William Gibson to write the script for it (his original script for Alien3 was rejected), could be cool. If you don't know who William Gibson is, you're not a science fiction fan.

God his script was awesome! It envolved 8 encounters with aliens and involved humans being transformed into aliens from some chemical in the air. Why did they have to reject his script?
  • so Robert Rodriguez IS directing Predator? thought he was just producing or something along those lines
