Ridley Scott to bring Monopoly to Life
Movie News By Mister Hand on August 10, 2007 | Be the First To Comment
As far as I’m concerned, BLADE RUNNER, Ridley Scott’s futuristic sci-fi opus, is pretty much the finest film yet fashioned by human hands. I’m also a big fan of BLACK HAWK DOWN, G.I. JANE, THE DUELLISTS and, of course, ALIEN. So I’m loathe to second guess the man who helmed such seminal cinematic experiences.
But… a MONOPOLY film?
First of all, I don’t think there’s anyone who would disagree that this sounds like a terrible idea.
And then there’s this quote from the director, as relayed by James Thoo at JoBlo: “…it’s really finding the universe for that game. Because clearly it ought to be humorous and for the family…”
So it will be a family comedy then. Scott has no track record with either family films or comedies. That’s not to say he’s incapable of delivering a good film in that genre, but I can’t help but think this conjures the spectre Steven Spielberg’s 1941. And does anyone remember CLUE? (Scott is actually asked his opinion of that film in this write up from Cinematical.)
The film has no listing yet on IMDB as being in pre-production, so maybe this is just a passing bit of insanity. Or maybe it’s just a late April Fool’s joke. Scott is from England. Do they celebrate April Fool’s in August across the pond?
