Ricky Gervais Puts Matthew Goode in the ‘Cemetery’
Casting Couch By Cole Abaius on May 11, 2009 | Be the First To Comment
Why didn’t Ricky Gervais play Adrien Veidt in Watchmen? It’s a question that will haunt me for at least another ten minutes now that I’ve just thought of it. Think of it – he wouldn’t have minded wearing the tights and would have felt at home being called the world’s smartest man.
But this is a discussion for another time. Perhaps a discussion for Gervais to have directly with Matthew Goode, now that Good has been cast in Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s next project, Cemetery Junction.
Sounds spooky? It isn’t.
Unless you find the prospect of an intimate look at insurance salesmen in 1970 spooky. And, sure, I can kind of see that. All that tweed.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Goode’s character is an energetic salesman who is also dating the boss’s daughter. Playing up against him will be Ralph Fiennes, Felicity Jones, Christian Cooke, Jack Doolan, and Gervais himself.
Does this sound mildly like a comedy version of “Mad Men” being done by the team that created “The Office” to me? A bit, and that’s a good thing. Even if it isn’t, it promises to be as awkward and brilliant as Merchant and Gervais can deliver.
What do you think? Can we get a redo on Watchmen with Gervais in the lead?
