Richard Gere joins AmeliaRichard Gere seems to have been making superb career choices lately. In 2007, the thespian went 2-2 with his leading roles in The Hoax and The Hunting Party and he also appeared in the acclaimed I’m Not There. Now he plans to keep it up by signing on for two films we should start anticipating as he will be working with some great talents.

The first is titled Amelia, a biopic about the life of aviator Amelia Earhart and her husband, publisher George Putnam. Gere will co-star alongside Academy Award Winner Hilary Swank and the film will be directed by Mira Nair (The Namesake). Shooting is expected to get underway later in the month in Toronto, Nova Scotia and South Africa.

The second is a cop drama called Brooklyn’s Finest, which is to be helmed by, no surprise, Antione Fuqua (Training Day). Gere will be joined by Don Cheadle and Ethan Hawke. That makes for quite an impressive cast. They will each play one of three unconnected Brooklyn cops who wind up at the same deadly location. One is an undercover narc, one is engaged in corruption, and the other is just a short time away from retirement. Take a guess as to which one Gere plays.

Gere is currently shooting Lasse Halstrom’s Hachiko.
