Even if he’s playing a vampire, he should still be able to react believably to Kristen Stewart’s lines/ to respond emotionally to Bella. Edward was a vampire in love, not a vampire with autism. This movie looks nearly as bad as “Twilight” and only slightly suggests greater talent than what he portrayed in that movie, but nevertheless, the comparisons between the films have nothing to do with gender roles, and those cannot make a film which is otherwise lacking somehow worthy of acclaim anyway.
Bella also isn’t much as far as female leads go. And Kristen Stewart playing her is about as feaux-dramatic with the role as Robert Pattinson is wooden.

I am not a fan of Robert Pattinson.And by fan I mean the way these crazy girls are.But wait a minute.The guy is a great and inspiring actor!what's with all this “maybe he can act”?He can definitely act,if you don't believe me watch how to be and little ashes!Salvador Dali is my favorite painter and I have read everything about him and Robert played Salvador with such grace and passion,you can see that from a big distance.So stop with the gealosy.The fact that he is so famous over night it's because of that idiotic movie Twilight!And even there he played great.So why don't you give the guy a break,I'm sure he's really tired of all this and he wishes he hasn't played in Twilight!

Can’t wait for this movie to come out. I think Twilight was just showing the surface of Robert Pattinson’s acting skills, can’t wait to see him in a role with more depth.

Other signs that this movie is going to be good:
1 – it has Chris Cooper. He’s always great.
2 – great songs in the trailer, especially “Asleep” by The Album Leaf (the one that plays about halfway through). That song is just about as dreamy as Robert himself!

I agree. Just like you said-raw talent, strong but raw. He should work on that fast, because he needs good movies. I actually didn t understand storyline at all from this. They probably just put it together to show as much Rob as possible. But everything looks really good. And I have to say all the comments I read on internet show the same thing-everyone is totally surprised. What is that telling us?

It pains me because, as I said above, Pattinson acted in a way indicating his disliking of the character, but also because it shows a little bit of what he thinks of Twilight. I think both he and Kristen Stewart pretty much hate the entirety of the Twilight series.

I do not think that my opinion matters more than others, or that people can't derive enjoyment from stuff I don't like. What I do think is that Twilight is trash, and that it sets a horrible example for the preteen girls that make up a lot of its fanbase. But it's okay to enjoy it, so long as you don't take it too seriously. I enjoyed the hell out of “The Day After Tomorrow,” but Jesus that movie is terrible! I'm not going to look to it for rich characters and moral lessons, I watch it to watch the special effects and Jake Gyllenhaal run from Cold. But that movie doesn't have a crazed fanbase who thinks it's the epitome of story telling and the greatest artistic achievement of our time. But if you ask half of the Twili out there, they'll say Twilight is their favorite movie, book, or breakfast cereal (if only it were made).

Which male based garbage do you feel has been praised and esteemed? The best comparison I can think of is Transformers 2, which, like Twilight, is garbage that is slammed by critics but made truck loads of money. I have trouble seeing this "Male Driven" bias for which you claim exists. And it really depends on what kind of movie you claim to be 'male driven' and 'thin and ridiculous.'

Pattinson, as I tried to indicate with his quote, played off the fact that he hated the character, and not that he tried to mirror the character's every nuance.

And if you this movie isn't a masterpiece, do you acknowledge that it's thin and ridiculous? Because if you do, and are entertained by it, that's great! The problem is when people think they're watching some everlasting piece of wonderful artistic merit and not a (female oriented) popcorn flick. That's my whole point, that being entertained by, shall I say, smut, is okay when you can acknowledge that and have broad horizons elsewhere.

I'm not really sure why it “pains you” to point out that quote from Robert Pattinson. Do you think you are enlightening me to some grand and shocking piece of information? Why do you think that would interest me in the least? It sounds to me as though you are one of those people who can not stand for others to like or be interested in something which you do not personally find value in. You are the sort to stand on a soapbox and bemoan the petty interests of others, using any method you can to belittle them and kill whatever pleasure they get out of things. In other words, you are a bully and a kill-joy. Go and be miserable on your own time. Leave everyone else to their own devices. Let them enjoy what they want to enjoy. They do not need your permission or approval. Believe it or not, yours is not the only opinion that matters.

Nobody said it was a modern masterpiece. I certainly don't think it is. I do think that there is a clear bias against movies that are slanted heavily towards a female audience. The part about having a male lead was a part of a larger argument, not the entire argument. And yes, the original plan in the movie is for him to seduce that girl as revenge for what her dad (the cop) did to him. None of that is to say that this movie will not be good. The point is that a movie heavily slanted towards women should not be slammed out of hand while those geared to men (ones which are just as thin and ridiculous) are praised and esteemed.

And Pattinson's acting is just fine. As I said, he is acting as the character is written. If you have doubts about his acting based solely on the fact that he is in this movie, then check out his other movies. How To Be is a great one or The Bad Mother's Handbook.

Yes, because only movies with male leads are well received (cough 'Precious' cough). Also I don't see any seducing for revenge.

It really pains me to do this, here's what Pattinson says about the character he plays:

"When you read the book it's like, 'Edward Cullen was so beautiful I creamed myself.' I mean, every line is like that. He's the most ridiculous person who's so amazing at everything. I think a lot of actors tried to play that aspect. I just couldn't do that. And the more I read the script, the more I hated this guy, so that's how I played him, as a manic-depressive who hates himself. Plus, he's a 108-year-old virgin so he's obviously got some issues there."

Female focused movies can be good. Twilight isn't. I could go piece by piece, and explain why it's complete literary garbage with a ravenous fan base. If it entertains you, great, but let's not act like Twilight is some modern masterpiece with fantastic acting and an incredible plot.

He's workign with Declan Donnellan next which is a huge honour. Declan is a wonderful director for actors and I know will get a superb performance out of Pattinson in Bel Ami. pattinson does remind me of a mixture of James Dean and Depp. Depp started out with Nightmare on elm street and I regard the vampire franchise as Rob's elm street

Something about him in this trailer reminds me of Brando.
