total-recall-1

I’ll go ahead and skip all the puns about fans being able to totally recall the Arnold Schwarzenegger flick from 1990, since this site is nothing if not dry and completely serious.

The screenwriter behind Salt – the Angelina Jolie picture that we reported on a while back – will be taking a crack at re-upping Total Recall for Columbia Pictures. Kurt Wimmer also has the film Law Abiding Citizen in production currently, but he’s probably best known for writing Equilibrium.

Variety is reporting that the studio wants to modernize the story, the film version of which is almost two decades old. How’s that for a wake-up call? 1990 was almost two decades ago.

This could actually be a good thing. I definitely wouldn’t scoff at a re-imagining of any Phillip K. Dick story, and “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” seems like as good a candidate as any. Someone should mention to Columbia that “The Man in the High Castle” is also still ripe for the picking. And while we’re at it, someone should remind Paul Giamatti to finally make his long-gestating biopic about the sci-fi legend, The Owl in Daylight.

No word yet on whether there will be any three-breasted women involved.

What do you think?
