The things that fall off it are parasites, not babies. They resemble spider-esque creatures with serrated beaks. Their bite causes people to explode (which I thought kinda dumb). It would have been better to have htem infected and die.

There were not 2 monsters. The main monster when viewed from the air reminded me quite a bit of Golum from LOTR in that it was gangly. It is not 100% bipedal as the monster here is. It is not armored on the back nor have horns as this monster and other fan art experiences I've seen have. I did not notice the smaller set of arms but it could be there. Its head was humanoid, but had huge teeth outside the mouth like a crocodile might. It did have some sort of air/breathing sacs on the side of its head. It does not EAT people, it does taste them - the final scene has it trying to eat Hud but then it spits him out. He is presumably not food for the creature, although the creature tried to taste him.

Overall I found the movie really cool for the tired old "monster destroys city" genre. Keeping the monster hidden during the film helped the suspense, and its funny even now there are very few sites with pictures of the actual monster. They did a great job keeping things secret. The one thing I did find kinda dumb was how the monster showed up everywhere the 5 New Yorkers ran. It was outside their apartment, then it was in the water and destroyed the bridge, then showed up near Beths, then finally ended up in central park with them. This is incredibly bad luck and just not believeable. It would have been much better to have alternated threats more, and replaced one or two of those scenes with the parasites attacking/chasing rather then have the beast itself continually follow them around. Other then that, really great flick with lots of suspense. I especially liked how the audience (which is normally full of annoying, rude, loud twits) would go so silent as to hear a pin drop during certan scenes - like trying to hear beths message, and when the monster looked down at Hud. It was obvious to me they were quite involved in the story.......

Good job JJ! I liked your movie well enough that here I am on the Internet the day after I saw it trying to google for an actual good picture of the monster to take a 2nd look because it was so intriguing..

Yeah...but why have 2 different type of gigantic monsters? One of the interesting parts of monster movies, is where they came from. How can JJ Abrams possibly find a logical explanation to 2 completely different types of monsters?

Hmmm. This leads me to think that there are two monsters *SPOILERS* The statue of liberty and her head are both seen scarred with claw marks. the monster seen throughout most of the movie has no visible claws. Also, the creature walking between the buildings seen directly after the statues head crashes into the streets looks much more like this concept art drawing than the other one. This one is also way bigger than the one shown in the rest of the movie, which explains how it got the head in the first place and how at the end when the fighter jets are flying into the city when the other monster is standing right there in central park.
Just a thought.
