It’s been a pretty big day on the Internet for Jonny Greenwood. First it was announced that Radiohead’s next album ‘The King of Limbs’ has gone up for digital pre-order and will be able to be downloaded on February 19. And now it has been reported that Greenwood will score director Lynne Ramsay’s (Ratcatcher) next film We Need to Talk About Kevin. This is important news because Greenwood’s score for There Will Be Blood was completely awesome and more stuff from people who are awesome is always a positive.
We Need to Talk About Kevin will star Tilda Swinton, John C. Reilly, and Ezra Miller. It is an adaptation of a 2003 novel of the same name by Lionel Shriver that takes the form of letters written by the mother of a killer. The narrator is a New York intellectual who did her best to raise an unwanted child, but found her best to not be nearly good enough. Her son Kevin first ruins her marriage and then kills a bunch of kids with a crossbow at school. That’s some heady subject matter. If Greenwood can create half of the tension in his music here that he did with There Will Be Blood then this thing could be a pretty affecting experience.
Before this comes out we will also get to hear Greenwood’s work in Tran Anh Hung’s upcoming Norwegian Wood, so if the music in that is good, then we can all officially start getting excited. Alright, I admit it, I’m just going to get excited already anyways.
