New ‘Public Enemies’ Poster Keeps It Gangsta

Poster Comparison: The Dark Knight and Public Enemies

The first official poster for Michael Mann’s Public Enemies has been dropped online courtesy of the folks over at MSN. And as our good friend Erik Davis at Cinematical points out, it strikes an eerie resemblance to the poster for The Dark Knight which featured Heath Ledger as The Joker, standing ready to strike. In this instance we get Johnny Depp as John Dillinger, ready to terrorize the streets of Chicago. Also, note the pyramid effect of the title leading up to Mr. Depp’s crotchial region — trying to appeal to a certain demographic? I think so. The story follows the takedown of notorious gangsters Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham) and Pretty Boy Floyd (Channing Tatum) by FBI Agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale).

MSN also threw together a gallery of images, some new and some not, which can be seen below. Public Enemies also stars Oscar winner Marion Cotillard, Lost star Emelie de Ravin, Giovanni Ribisi, 300’s David Wenham and Sundance ‘09 “It” girl Carey Mulligan. It hits theaters on July 1, 2009.

  • the photos are amazing. This movie is already starting to look great, and I can't wait. So glad to see Johnny Depp playing a "normal" role for once again.
  • Equalizer
Bale + Depp + Mann = awesome movie.
  • Johnny just isn't aging. It's like '21 Jump Street' wrapped ten years ago and not TWENTY.

I can't wait for this movie, either.
  • Maybe he has a portrait in his attic...?
  • Heh. Mebbe.

Anybody know if that building in the background is the same one they used for Wayne Enterprises? That street looks familiar, over at Monroe and South LaSalle, in Chicago.
  • Chrissie
A classic it will not be but it's aesthetically pleasing at least.
  • Awesome poster; been waiting for this flick for a while now, can't wait to witness it's brilliance on screen.
