Is That A Justice League Poster in I Am Legend?

Posted by Michelle Graham (michelle@filmschoolrejects.com) on December 18, 2007

The guys over on /Film were inundated with emails from eagle eyed I Am Legend viewers over the weekend, all eager to spill how they saw a billboard in the abandoned Times Square, advertising a new feature film released on the 5/15/10 and showing the big bad Bat’s logo, overlaid with the Superman crest. So, come 2010 in I Am Legend land, Batman will be facing off against Superman, don’t you wish you could see that?

If fans are correct, we just might! As reports over on Moviehole have shown, George Miller is claiming that the Justice League movie is still on the fast track, and is probably going to get a new title along the way. Could it be that the billboard for Batman vs Superman in I Am Legend was a clue to the title of the new Justice League title? After all, rumour has it that the movie will have a battle between Supes and the Dark Knight as a main focal point of the script.

Sadly, this is not the case. Sorry for getting you all worked up about it, but it has been confirmed that this billboard is nothing more than a very cool easter egg within the movie, added byscreenwriter/producer Akiva Goldsman, who was originally attached to a different Superman vs. Batman screenplay which never went anywhere. What a pity, because it could have been such a good reason to see Justice League.

Talking Point: Do you even care about the Justice League movie any more?

Frank says:

I also noticed the Superman/Batman billboard in the movie and got all ancy in the pantsy, thinking it might be Justice League as well. Finally i’d have a reason to get excited over JL. But, I guess i’ll have to be sad now. It would be pretty sweet to see them go at it.

Dante Maddox says:

Hate to sound like an uber geek or anything, but something needs to be cleared up. To comic book fans that symbol has a different meaning, and is one that can be seen on a regular basis. It is the symbol for on going Superman/Batman TEAM UP book. When I see that symbol I think of the comic book series that sports that symbol on every cover. If anything it’s evidence of a Batman Superman partnership, not a fight, and certainly not a JLA movie.

Neil Miller says:

I’m with Dante on this one… When I saw that in the film, my first thought was the comic versions that were team-up books. I didn’t for one second think Justice League… Oh well.

James says:

I’m backing up Dante too. I never thought BvsS. Come on man! It’s the World’s Finest!

ivan says:

agree with dante too…yeah i thought of the team up between batman and superman..justice league is something different. it was kinda cool though to have it in the movie. specially after they had the 6 minute imax dark knight preview before the film.

Heath says:

For all of you geeks that remember the original Dark Knight series.Superman and Batman do rumble.Batman gets tired of all of the bullcrap going on in Gotham and decides to start going off on all of the criminals.Superman enters the series and tries to reason with the Batman and they get into a fight.Batman fakes his own death and Clark Kent aka Superman goes to the funeral to see.Batman is lying in the caskit and as Clark turns to walk off he hears Batman’s heart beating. This is just a thought but could this be a glimpse of the future for the big screen adaptation of the Dark Knight series?JUST A THOUGHT.

Moogle-x says:

Ah, but who caught the “Teen Titans” movie poster in the video store? Everyone already knew about them making THAT movie however.

Travis says:

My thoughts on things like this is that its always intentional. They do stuff like that to get a buzz going on the internet (like now) and then maybe the interest generated in the internet community will be enough to convince a studio to put something into production. Or back into production in this case. Not that I am saying its a bad thing, I’m just saying…things like this arent just done for simple enjoyment. Although it was very cool to see that symbol on the big screen.
