Predators

I’m missing this year’s SXSW Film Festival for various reasons, and for the most part I’ve been able to avoid any feelings of jealousy towards the rejects in attendance. Kick-Ass screening? Awesome, I was lucky enough to see it a couple weeks ago. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo? Cool, I’ve already watched it on import DVD. Harry Brown? Nice, I’ve seen that one too. But there are also a few films screening that make me hate Neil, Landon, and Brian just a little bit more than usual. Micmacs, Tucker and Dale Vs Evil, Enter the Void, A Serbian Film… and a sneak peek at the upcoming Robert Rodriguez produced Predators.

Well thanks to the official Predators website I can scratch that last one off the list. A sneak preview has gone live on the site showing a pretty good mix of actual scenes and behind-the-scenes footage. Odds are it’s not the same footage being screened at SXSW, but it’s still more than enough to raise my interest in the movie. Check out the video here and the official synopsis below.

“Predators, a bold new chapter in the Predator universe, shot under the creative auspices of Robert Rodriguez, star Adrian Brody as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet… as prey. With the notable exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers – mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members – human “predators” that are now being systematically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators.”

I wasn’t all that excited beforehand, but the movie is actually looking pretty sweet. The addition of new Predators including the vicious looking hound variety helps, but the “most dangerous game” setup where man is the prey is always a fun genre in its own right. Predators is due out in July from director Nimrod Antal and stars Brody, Laurence Fishburne, Danny Trejo, and Topher Grace (as one of the Yakuza obviously). The official trailer hits on March 18th.

What do you think of the footage?
