Per Variety, Natalie Portman and Brad Pitt will be starring in an upcoming romantic comedy based on a book by Leanne Shapton.  Like Portman herself, the book’s title is a mouthful… “Important Artifacts and Personal Property from the Collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris, Including Books, Street Fashion, and Jewelry.”  She apparently brought the book to Pitt and his production company, Plan B.  The synopsis is as follows:

The book takes the form of a Sotheby’s-like estate auction catalog, with 325 entries and photographs depicting items that reveal the private moments and the rise and fall of a four-year relationship between the fictitious couple Hal Morris (a 40ish photographer) and Lenore Doolan (a New York Times food columnist in her late 20s).”

That synopsis is utterly accurate as the book literally is a collection of photographs showing items ranging from jewelry and clothing to books and silver toothbrush holders.  The images tell the tale of the couple’s love affair from first meeting to final break-up, and it will truly be a feat of screenwriting and filmmaking to turn them into an actual movie.  I’m a sucker for anything starring Portman so I’ll be giving the film a shot.  Too many of her films end up being fairly tepid and unmemorable, but it’s nothing a quick rewatch of Hotel Chevalier can’t cure…
