Poltergeist To Haunt New Audiences

“They’re Here.”
“This house is clean.”
These are two iconic quotes from a film that took a seat as one of the most popular horror franchises of all time, Poltergeist. The film was basically a bastard version of a film that Steven Spielberg intended to make, but never did, called Dark Skies. There have been many arguments as to who can take major credit for the film between Spielberg and director Tobe Hooper. Another somewhat unresolved issue is the “Poltergeist curse”, which has been claimed to have taken the lives of several actors. It looks like the curse will be put to the test once again.
Coming Soon reports that MGM will be creating what they call a “new character-based horror project that will utilize the original film as a jumping off point.” What does this mean? Does that mean a remake or a reboot? I don’t have an answer to that one, but I do know who will… Vadim Perelman. CS says that MGM has named Perelman as their man to direct the newest film of the series. Perelman has an interesting track record including the critically acclaimed House of Sand and Fog, The Life Before Her Eyes and a wicked crazy bar fight in Connecticut.
While the series took a bit of a slump near the end, the original film is considered an iconic 80′s and horror flick. This is also the first time that anyone has really even tried to touch a Spielberg property, so I think Perelman has a tough task ahead of him.
