‘Plan 9 From Outer Space’ Teaser Can’t Afford Steak

Plan9FromOuterSpaceRemake

I have to admit that I didn’t even realize someone was remaking Plan 9 From Outer Space, mostly because I go outside once and a while (mostly to swim, to get my kite-flying team up to snuff, and because it’s criminal to drink Texas Tea indoors). Luckily, my friend and drinking partner Peter Hall over at SciFi Squad has enlightened me so that I, dear reader, can enlighten you.

Possibly inebriated himself (it’s been hours since he started in at 11am), Peter posted up the teaser trailer for a no-budget remake for the flick. After all, why would you invest any money into something that never appealed to anyone in the first place?

Alright, to be fair, a comedian and his hilarious talking robots seemed to dig it.

But other than that, seriously, what the hell is going on in my life?

Yeah! Take that radio out!

The scene where the alien/zombie/mutant crashes through the car door is kind of cool, actually. There, I admit it.

God this looks awesome. Mostly I’m just glad that Asylum isn’t the production company behind it.

What do you think?

    All I can say is...

    ...

Michael Bay. That's all I can say about this thing.
  • What does Michael Bay have to do with this film?
  • So we're having a party when this comes out, right? And then we're going to re-enact the whole thing immediately afterwards, right?

    I don't have a pobrelm.

This has me thinking. If Plan 9 From Outerspace is the worst movie of all time, and remakes are ALWAYS worse than the movies they are based off of...

But in all seriousness this actually looks good, or at least as a remake of an Ed Wood film could ever be.

Okay, first of all, PLAN 9 is NOT the worst movie ever made. There are a ton of others much worse. It sucks limp donkey dick, yes, but it's not the worst. Anything Coleman Francis did, for example, surpasses it in the suck department.

Secondly, all this looks like is a zombie film containing elements of dialogue from PLAN 9. Eh.

Absolutely, this is NOT a remake of Plan 9, it's a rip.

    Dr. Abaius,
At some point in the (relatively) recent past FSR made a list of movies that should never be remade for any reason. Blade Runner, Princess Bride, Rocky Horror Picture Show and a bunch of others came up (Well, if the Princess Bride and Rocky Horrow weren't listed they damn well should have been!) but I think I have to add Plan 9 From Outer Space to that list.

Honestly, how can you remake a film as magnificently visionary as Plan 9? Even if it is magnificent for it's incompetance it is still truly visionary. Especially given the place this film has taken over history the question goes beyond, "How can anyone do this film justice," to, "Why?"

Plan 9 From Outer Space is perfect. Ed Wood wanted this to be pinnacle crown glory and it is. Remaking it is just an exbarrassment.

Having said that, the trailer looks fun. If they make it in the style of 28 Days Later (Story and acting first, gory way down the list.) then it will be fun and I'll see it opening night. If it turns into a gory fest, well, then it's really a disservice to Ed Wood's Legacy. (Such as it was/is.)
