New ‘Up’ Trailer Takes Flight, Finds Talking Dogs
Movie News By Neil Miller on March 6, 2009 | (8) Comments
Here’s a little ditty about Pixar’s new movie Up. Some time ago my good friend Peter from /Film saw 45-minutes or so of the film at a special event in Los Angeles, and he came away from it making some light complaints about a certain element involving some talking dogs or something. And even though I chalked it up as a ‘wait and see’ situation, I was still both curious and a little cynical about it, at least based on the way Pete described it. Now, weeks later we have the third full trailer for the film (seen below) and within it are some talking dog moments. Which as I understand it, is a big reveal along with the revealing of the film’s third human character, Charles Mudds (voiced by Christopher Plummer). For those not following, the other two characters are Carl Fredrickson (Ed Asner) and Russell the boy explorer (Jordan Nagai).
Anyway, now that I’ve seen this ‘talking dog’ thing I am ready to make a statement. It isn’t that bad. Even if it goes beyond what we see in the trailer below, it won’t be that bad. Also, it seems to fit in with the universe being created here — using baloons, a man flies his house into a mysterious new world where he encounters some sort of mad scientist, and stuff. In short, Peter at /Film is totally wrong about the talking dogs — at least as far as I can tell.
Check out the trailer for yourself below or head over to Yahoo Movies to see it in glorious high definition. Up is directed by Pete Docter (Monsters Inc.) and was co-directed and written by Bob Peterson (Ratatouille). It hits theaters on May 29, 2009.
