Paul Bettany to Form the Theory of Evolution

Did you know that Charles Darwin formed the Theory of Evolution? Of course you did. What you might not know though, is that real-life husband and wife tandem Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly have signed on to play Mr. and Mrs. Evolution, Charles Darwin and his wife Emma, in Creation, a biopic from director Jon Amiel (Entrapment).

As THR reports, “John Collee’s compelling script tells the remarkable story behind Darwin’s revolutionary theory and the foundation of a book that changed the world,” said Oscar-winning producer Jeremy Thomas, the force behind the project. “We think of Darwin as an old man with a gray beard. The reality of our story is very different.”

Having never seen, read or heard anything about Charles Darwin — I live in America, we only teach Creationsim here, unlike our heathen friends across the pond — I have a feeling that this could turn out to be a very educational experience. As well, I have always loved fantasies.

How does a Charles Darwin biopic make you feel?

  • Bettany is only taking on the role so that he can grow that sweet, giant Darwinian beard. He'll probably win an Oscar for it. Especially if he puts on a few pounds.

    BORING.

Why would anyone want to go to voluntarily go to a 3 hour science class to see something we already know?
  • Breton
So, IS he going to have a beard? That quote kind of befuddled me. Sounds like they're going to try to do something original, and end up making a mess.
  • Caroline
Can't wait to learn more about Darwin.

There will probably be some protests on this one.

    The truth hurts.

This is only a biography about a man and his beliefs. Everyone knows his beliefs and
everyone knows he existed. So what is there to protest about? Before the Christian Right
protest, they should see the movie first.
  • I hate to jump into a controversial debate, especially since I'm always correct about everything, ever, but Darwin didn't hold "beliefs." At least not in the pure sense of that term.

Science doesn't demand your belief, only your eyes.
