Paramount Signs On to Marvel’s Upcoming Slate, Including Iron Man 3

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios announced today that they will be teaming up once again, and again, and again on a slew of upcoming flicks, all in the hopes of recapturing the magic of this past summer’s success, which saw Iron Man bringing in over $570 million world wide. The deal will include the following projects:
- Iron Man 2 (May 7, 2010)
- Thor (July 16, 2010)
- The First Avenger: Captain America (May 6, 2011)
- The Avengers (July 15, 2011)
- Iron Man 3 (TBA)
Of course, the biggest surprise there is Iron Man 3, which is now on the board. It is good to see that both parties have enough confidence in the character — as well they should — to warrant the planning of a trilogy in addition to Iron Man’s undeniable involvement in The Avengers. As well, you might notice some release date shifts for Iron Man 2 and Thor, but no worries there.
What I do like in all of this is the fact that Marvel Studios appears to continue to make great decisions behind the scenes. By sticking with Paramount for the bulk of their slate, it allows them the consistency that will be needed to get these movies into production and done in a relatively short time span. Other than Hulk, there shouldn’t be any bouncing back and forth from one studio to the other, trying to get things in order. For fans, this means that the prospect of all these movies actually getting done and releasing on the dates listed above is getting more and more likely.
What do you think of Marvel sticking with Paramount for all 5 films? Also, how do you feel knowing that Iron Man 2 and 3 are on the board?
