Al Pacino to Take On James Bond

pacino02.jpgYou read that right. Apparently there is a new rumor that was floated to the guys over at AICN that Al Scent of a Woman Pacino would play the head honcho of the new, evil terrorist organization in the upcoming Bond film Quantum of Solace.

This is certainly a crazy rumor which may turn out to be 100% completely face. It almost seems out of character to me, for the Bond films, which have often shied away from such huge names, unless that star is Bond. Though arguably most Bond actors rose to their highest after being Bond, so even then, big celebrities are not often top choices. The few Bond movies that did recruit bigger names were terrible. Halle Berry, Terri Hatcher, etc.

I’m not entirely sure I’d want Pacino in this, but the rumor does state, at least in Quantum that it would be more of a cameo type appearance as the top dog of top dogs, rather than a main villain to match wits and bullets with. Stay tuned for more.

Sound Off: Is Pacino in a Bond movie a good thing?

I think that it will be great. Casino Royale ended the self-parodizing format that the Bond movies had taken. I do not feel that the actors could ruin the movie so much as a poor screenplay could (and has with the Brosan era Bond-flix). In the end, any good actor would do. Just as long as we never have a Bond girl as bad as Denise Richards was.
  • I think Pacino wouldn't be a terrible choice for a villain. All ham aside in some of his past work, he is an incredible actor who could make a role like that interesting, even as a cameo. Presumably though, if it is a cameo in "Quantum", it'll be a larger role down the road.

Did you mean to say "false" instead of "face"?

I think Pacino would play a role like Blofeld, where he would only be the top dog but not the main bad guy (except a few movies where Blofeld really was the main bad guy). As for big celebrities, Christopher Walken made a good bad guy in A View to a Kill, but Walken was born to be a bad guy.

Fantastic, but I think *nemesis* is the right role for Pacino rather than Villian. It would be nice to see the bad guy get away - and get away WITH something - every once in a while. Let Bond best all the 2nd bananaS while Pacino manages to slip away for a couple of movies.

i doubt. some bozo probably heard Matheiu Almaric being called "The French Al Pacino" and ran with the rumor...

  • Some people think that Al just himself. I don't know about this. I mean he's a great actor, but I don't think he'll be a good Bond villain. They need an actor who's more physically imposing.

I think it would be great to put him in as the main villian.
His acting is great in everything he does.
