Only Kevin Smith Can Make a Porno This Cute

Zack and Miri

Today brings more snarky goodness from the marketing campaign for Kevin Smith’s latest film Zack and Miri Make a Porno, with a brand new poster filled with sunshine and cutesy animals. Visitors of our website will recognize the style of this poster, as many of our ads for the film looked very similar over the past few weeks. You have to appreciate the sense of humor behind the marketing campaign for Zack and Miri, making jest at some of the conservative-minded critics who have moved to shelter the world from the film’s title. Little do those folks know that the movie itself isn’t quite as dirty as the title might suggest. But then again, we would be naive to assume that they are open-minded enough to actually give the movie one viewing, wouldn’t we.

For those of us with a sense of humor, there is this new poster:

Zack and Miri Cute Poster

Thanks to Slashfilm and Cinematical for the heads up, as well as IMPAwards for the poster.

  • Cute poster but I didn't really like the movie, even though my girlfriend (Katie Morgan) was in it.
  • Well done Fure! Although Morgan's choice in men may challenge her claim at being a genius...

As far as the poster goes, is it actually new? The movie's already dead in theaters, so it seems a little late.

Zack and Miri is a blithe on the Christian country of the United States of America. This is what going to bring Jesus back and what is Jesus going to do when he gets back but layeth the smaketh downth on your candy asses.
  • Really Rob? (Hunter) The fact that the film is picking up steam after being released on a bad weekend, and in it's second week, is just about to overtake Clerks II total domestic gross, making it Smith's second-most profitable film, I don't think that it's "dead in the water". Also, consider the fact that the movie is still on the top-five box office charts after two weeks, when plenty of big movies are coming out. (Madagascar 2, Role Models, High School Musical 3, Saw V, etc.)

I just don't get the across-the-board hate for Kevin Smith. No, his humor isn't for everyone, but I don't get the dire need for everyone to put down him and his films whenever someone mentions his name.
  • @ rwiggum, I don't recall saying anything negative towards Smith or his movie. Acknowledging that it's declining at the box-office is far from hatred, it's an observation, and it's something that happens to every movie. I was only questioning why a new poster would be released over a week into the film's run.

And trumpeting the fact that it's Smith's 2nd most profitable movie isn't saying much. (Also, it probably isn't even that accurate. 2nd highest grossing is better.)
  • Oops, my bad, I meant grossing. Nonetheless, I think the reasons for the Weinstiens releasing the poster seems obvious; The movie had a pretty disappointing opening weekend, so they wanted to up the marketing push, which includes a poster that features the stars themselves. Seth Rogen is a big selling point for a lot of people, so they wanted to get his face out there.

All I was trying to say was that your assertion that the movie was "dead" in the box office wasn't accurate, since the second weekend actually had better returns than the opening weekend.
  • All that matters is that Kevin Smith makes back the budget it cost to make the film. It cost 24 million to make, if I remember him correctly saying at the Fantastic Fest premiere, and it has made 21 million so far. Once it reaches DVD it will do even better. So I would qualify it as a success.

This poster was on Kevin Smiths Myspace page the day before the movie was released. Last
week it was on apples home page with a video interview of the movie and cast. By no means
    is this a new poster.
