Here is a quick rundown of what DVDs you should be heading to your local retailer to pick up on this Tuesday morning:
Neil’s Pick of the Week:
Good Night, and Good Luck (Widescreen Edition)
My personal pick for Best Director this year was George Clooney for his reverent and compelling biopic of Edward R. Murrow’s fight against Senator Joseph McCarthy and his anti-communist propaganda machine. This film moves similar to its soundtrack with a smooth and jazzy touch of a director on the verge of greatness. The film also delivers the amazing performance of David Strathairn, who played Murrow. His performance is both captivating and natural as the rigid yet idealistic Murrow. With all the hype and acclaim that this film was adorned, it is a no-brainer pick of the week.

Other Notable Releases after the jump…
Other notable releases:
A History of Violence (Widescreen Edition)
Viggo Mortensen takes a break from starring in Peter Jackson sci-fi epics to play Tom Stall, a small town guy whose world is upturned when he is discovered to have a very dark, mob related past. It looks like a very intriguing and action packed ride, but as Brian Gibson found out in his review, appearances can be deceiving.

The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio (Widescreen Edition)
Julianne Moore plays housewife Evelyn Ryan who enters a commercial jingle-writing contest in an attempt to support her ten children. And even if this weren’t based on a true story, the ten children thing would absolutely scream “Ohio.” And while the story seems lame from afar, the cast with supporting roles from Woody Harrelson and Laura Dern seems solid. Probably worth a spot in the Netflix queue, but who am I to tell without seeing the flick.
Our 2 Cents: Tara Settembre has all the “prize winning” stuff in her review coming Wednesday morning.

Basic Instinct: Ultimate Edition (Unrated Director’s Cut)
This one should attract one of two types of people: Those seeking extra Sharon Stone “crotch” shots and those who don’t already own this neo-classic erotic thriller. And with the upcoming release of Basic Instinct 2, it was only a matter of time before the wheels of Hollywood’s huge cash machine got to churning and delivered unto us a special edition.
Our 2 Cents: Look for a possible review later in the week… Or just go buy the DVD for yourself.
