Officially Cool: The Entire Star Wars Saga in One Picture
Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on November 8, 2007
With the saga complete and the book pretty much closed for Star Wars movies, fans have been forced to find other ways to entertain themselves. That’s ok though, as the Star Wars empire has grown well beyond the six films, transcending all forms of media and putting George Lucas up on a pedestal as the King of All Geekdom (Sorry Harry Knowles, but Lucas is the O.G. - Original Geek). But for anyone who isn’t dressing up like a storm trooper every Halloween for 20 years and worshiping the ground that Mark Hamill walks on, the following photo (Courtesy of MyConfinedSpace) is a pretty good display of the entire saga. In fact, if they ever wrote a “Star Wars for Dummies” book, this could serve as page one. Enjoy.

This is pretty good time-line/collage of the series, but the older version of Obi-Wan portrayed by Alec Guinness should be displayed, Darth Vader should be clearer and why is Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin) so prominent when his character was rather minor in the series.

I am very impressed with the total encapsulation that this image brings to the Star Wars saga. It is great to see that so many people are going to continue to promote and support this phenominal film series! Nice work!

Where’s old Obi Wan Kenobi? It’s left out a major character from the first movie!
November 9th, 2007 at 11:37 am
can you all say together at once: we are losers.
There is a real wars going on and people dying in reality and you jerks have pissed away 20 years…
November 9th, 2007 at 12:01 pm
A real war initiated by your own government, for false/overblown reasons. The only one to blame for the deaths of American Soldiers is the administration.

War for fantasy/storytelling purposes has been around since the dawn of civilization. War, has also, been around since the dawn of civilization. In fact, the birth of civilization is pretty much defined by war - the birth of food storage created the first breed of haves and have-nots; thus the birth of war. War in storytelling is interesting because it’s about the risk of life and the intensity of fighting for your own life; thus making stories exciting. Look at all action flicks - they’re based on the premise that risking your life or physical well being is exciting. Even though it’s sad to see war being used impiously for entertainment, at least Star Wars has deeper philosophical meanings and even a message of resistance against the big corporate entities and technology (the Empire). In “Sith”, Lucas even went as far as making a subtle little comment about the Bush administration “If you’re not with us, you’re the enemy too”.

Why is Tarkin so large? Why the snowspeeder commander guy instead of Wedge?!?!?
Where is Porkins!!!??! (STAY ON TARGET!)
November 9th, 2007 at 3:46 pm
It definitely suffers from the lack of a clear depiction of Anakin and Darth Vader. I probably woulda tried to work in a battle droid, some asteroids, the rancor beast, and Wicket (there’s a different ewok in there, barely, but the little furballs are woefully unrepresented — they were responsible for the destruction of the second Death Star, after all!)

Um, I’m not sure who your geeky pop culture sources are, but whoever told you that George Lucas is the King of All Geekdom has been smoking rolled up Attack of the Clones joints.
Most geeks couldn’t possibly hold him in lower esteem since the prequels came out.
November 9th, 2007 at 4:20 pm
where is obi wan? he is the coolest one…
and the comment from obi wan… if you are so concerned with reality, why are you leaving a comment on a stupid poster? you are no obi wan.:P
November 9th, 2007 at 4:48 pm
Forget Alec Guiness.. Where’s the Golden Bikini !! :(
November 9th, 2007 at 4:59 pm
No Alec Guiness? Luke Skywalker is relegated to a small dark shadow under Anakin? C3PO and R2D2 actually appear in all 6 movies, but combined they appear smaller than Jar-Jar?
The poster is cool in concept, but the execution leaves something to be desired.
November 9th, 2007 at 6:46 pm
what about a Tusken Raider?? they were pivotal to the story! or the Racor just because it was cool when you was a kid!
November 9th, 2007 at 6:58 pm
Where is the X-Wing fighter? Han & Chewbacca should be given more real estate than than Qui-gon and Darth Maul…Leia too. No real image of Vader…lame.
November 9th, 2007 at 7:13 pm
Maybe Tarkin is too big. But, the rest is just fine.
November 9th, 2007 at 7:58 pm
why the heck is that one snowspeeder pilot featured rather than Wedge? At least he is in all three of the first episodes.
November 9th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
freaking morons forgot obi wan. SO STUPID.
November 9th, 2007 at 10:23 pm
Love it. Really love it. Just what exactly is up with the posts. Seems like some people cannot get over the trivial minute details of a picture. Grow a pair and stop complaining that the deck plans of the Star Ship enterprise are not right. Man! There needs to be a more fitting term for people like that than geeks because I always imagined geeks actually have some intelligence and reason where as these are hapless fan boys, probably with ant farms in their room provided by their parents. “What? Did you see what that ant just did. It was a soldier ant but it picked up a grain of sugar and carried it back to the colony like a worker. I have to kill it, I can not have ants doing things they are not suppose to. Time to get back to Sim CIty / Civilization and play the same map to year 3000 and irrigate every tile.” Please post this as the people commenting about disproportinate representations really need to hear this. After they are done running the exact calculations and percentage of screen time to check where the proportions in the picture should lie. Come on. There are so many other concepts that go into creating this, such as color mapping, layering, styles, form, and blah, blah blah. In the end I really could not see a project like this being done better. Good job.

Where is Paul Maud’bib Artreides and the Spice Guild???
Without them there is no plot and no space folding!
November 10th, 2007 at 2:42 pm
Guys, somebody made a VERY nice looking poster in their free time and you’re complaining that it doesn’t have your favorite characters in the spot light?
Oh and Tarkin is an extremely critical character, remember, he was the one “holding Vader’s leash”
Just because he wasn’t in all 6 movies doesn’t mean he isn’t important
Great Job on the Poster!
November 10th, 2007 at 3:12 pm
It’s quite easy to criticize someone elses work.
Instead of mouthing off you are better than everyone else, try coming up with a Star Wars Saga poster of your own - oh, but I guess that would be too difficult now wouldn’t it!
November 10th, 2007 at 3:19 pm
It’s good but there’s a few things you could do differently and I wish you would, because then it would be perfect.
1. Feature Anakin/Vader more prominently
2. As someone else said, Alec Guiness should be in there.
3. Shrink down some of the minor characters that you have in there
4. The fonts are off. The way they look is well-placed, but they should be in the “Episode I” font which is the official one used on all the posters.
If you were to drop in Photoshop and replace those things, it’d be a hell of a poster!
November 10th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
Great poster. I am really impressed by the quality of the work. It looks just like a LFL originated poster. Although I agree with some of the comments before (Takin too big, more prominent Vader and old Obi-Wan). The poster truly is a work of art. And anyone complaining about the war going on and saying that this poster should not have been made because of it, really has no strong grip on reality.
November 10th, 2007 at 4:44 pm
I think its incredible. It is just a poster for the movies. It is not supposed to be a definition of the movies. For all you complaining, I’d like to see you do better.

I can’t help but notice that the credits are missing from the bottom of the image, which was created by SimonZ. Google his name and you’ll find his site, which has dozens of original wallpapers. I’m sure everyone with complaints about this particular image will find something that satisfies them at his site. Personally, I very much like this wallpaper and use many of his other wallpapers on my computer.
November 11th, 2007 at 9:34 am
I love this image! I’ve had it set as my desktop at work for months now and I get nothing but positive remarks on it. I agree with Zefram, where is the credit to SimonZ? This is his work, he has fantastic wallpaper, very creative!
November 11th, 2007 at 12:22 pm
At first glance, this was really impressive!
But, as I looked at it, I found myself agreeing with the other posters. On the one hand, no I couldn’t do better myself (no artistic talent)… but on the other hand, I think I can make some suggestions for improving it:
1) It looked like it was going chronologically with the images matching the movie titles through the prequels. Then on the other side, the classic trilogy images are jumbled together without concern for where the characters actually appeared (Ackbar and Lando above the “A New Hope” logo, for example).
2) The main characters evolved during the series, so it wouldn’t hurt to include different versions… Chancellor or Senator Palpatine? Young Obi-wan? Older Obi-wan? Luke before being a Jedi? Jedi Anakin? Force Ghost Anakin/Yoda/Obi-wan? What about the prequel era and classic era Yoda?
3) Including minor characters is a good call… but some of the choices here don’t make sense. We’ve got Logray but not Wicket… and it looks like Rogue 5 instead of Wedge Antilles. Wedge flew in the Battle of Yavin, Hoth and Endor. He was included with the main group of heroes in the celebration at the end of Return of the Jedi. I’m not complaining about his absence because he’s a personal favorite of mine, I’m complaining because his actions were almost as important as what Jar Jar did… and Jar Jar is visible (I say almost, because Jar Jar is the one that set Palpatine up with his emergency powers… but anyone could have done that. Not anyone could survive 2 battles v. deathstars). So, the guy who found Han and Luke in the snow, and then got blown up in the battle of Hoth (1 movie appearance) is on the poster, Wedge (3 movie appearances) not shown.
Other characters to have considered… Biggs & Porkins, Lobot, Motti, Veers… Jango Fett (who was more important than his son, in the grand scheme of the films).
Good work… but could be use some tinkering…

Y me olvidaba, jeje.
November 11th, 2007 at 12:57 pm
Where is this guy called, uh what’s his name….um cant quite place it……..um HAN SOLO?
November 11th, 2007 at 1:36 pm
It looks great and very well executed but some charactures and vehicles are wrongly placed in the time line.
November 11th, 2007 at 9:23 pm
absolutely love the poster. no complaints, but a few comments. first, i love how they got the anakin/vader crossover. fits extremely well. second, it would have been cooler to have palpatine at the top, behind anakin/vader kinda like he’s lording over the entire saga, because he’s resonsible for it. also, luke right under vader, fits perfectly. there are some interestingly subtle things in here if you know where and how to look.
Great Job Everybody!
November 12th, 2007 at 4:48 am
Open your eyes, jbird. Han Solo couldn’t be much closer to the middle of the image.
November 12th, 2007 at 7:01 am
Great work!!
My only complaint is that the rebel pilot is featured so prominently, more so than other more pivotal characters - I’m guessing he’s there to help symbolize the rebellion as a whole, as opposed to an individual character.
November 16th, 2007 at 6:56 am
1 character is represented only once. That’s why there is only one Obi Wan, Anakin/Vador, 1 Palpatine…
November 19th, 2007 at 12:12 pm
This is very bad-to-the-ass. I love it.
November 20th, 2007 at 1:21 pm
this poster is great! split it down the middle and you will see why some characters are large and some are small, the artist has made this poster to look proportionate on each side. on the outskirts you have various ships then moving in you see a representative of a species that played a very important role in the star wars saga ie. the gungans and the ewoks. And the last thing I will comment about is the choice in characters portrayed in this poster. the artist is most definitely a huge star wars fan so if he/she is going to spend the time to create a marvelous piece he/she might as well incorporate the characters he/she has enjoyed and loved, that may explain why wedge isn’t in it and maybe why ewan mcgregor instead of sir alec guiness is portrayed. Great work!

Found the original super-sized image of this and printed it on matte paper and framed it. Looks awesome!!!
November 28th, 2007 at 4:05 pm
This is an outrage. I’m nowhere to be found on this poster.
November 29th, 2007 at 8:55 am
I am Zoltán Simon (SimonZ), creator of this Star Wars saga picture. Thank you for your comments, they are very useful for me.
I created this poster for the 30th anniversary of Star Wars. I uploaded it to my site on 25th May. It evolved from another smaller picture which is now the central piece of this one, with only the main characters (Padme, Skywader, Obi, Luke, Han, Leia) and two pictures to illustrate the two trilogies: the Mustafar battle piece and a Tatooine landscape with the memorable binary sunset. (You can see this one on my site, too.) After finishing this poster, I decided to extend it to a larger poster with a lot of characters from both trilogies. The extensions are two big groups: a prequel one and a classic one. According to the two-step way I created this poster, the importance of the character is not given only by his/her size, rather that the position, how close to the midddle he/she is. The two droids are smaller than Jar Jar, that is right. But if you look carefully, the two droids give the basis of the characters, they are in the middle line.
My intention was to use only one picture of a character even if more than one actor played him, otherwise the poster would be really overcrowded. (For some people, this one looks overcrowded, too.) That’s why Alec Guinness is missing - we see Obi-Wan in Episodes I-II-III mostly. (There is only one exception: in the Mustafar piece, you can see Anakin and Obi-Wan again - but this part of the poster is not for depicting the characters but depicting the most important action scene in SW 1-2-3.) The situation with Yoda and Palpatine is different. Here I wanted to represent the different eras in the two trilogies: Yoda fits to the Republic, Episodes I-II-III. The evil Palpatine depicts the Galactic Empire, the system we see in Episodes IV-V-VI.
Some of you mentioned that I put Zev Senesca instead of Wedge as a Rebel pilot. I agree, originally I wanted to put Wedge there. The only problem was the source material - I could not find a nice Wedge pic with a very good resolution. (The original size of this poster is 5500*3750 pixels thus I needed large source pictures.) The situation is the same with the Ewok Logray - I plan to change him to Wicket. I also plan some other, minor changes.
I tried to create a balanced, fairly symmetrical poster of the six episodes of Star Wars saga, a poster which reminds you of the whole saga. I know that one picture cannot represent every aspects of this really complex story - my picture is only one way of interpretation. A way I really like. Please do not want this picture to save the world. I cannot make everybody satisfied, it is impossible and I never wanted this. But if some of you are satisfied with this poster, I am honored.

I really like the poster. Hopefully it will encourage others to tap into thier artistic side. Sure, obi-wan is missing as played by Sir Alec but is JUST BRILLIANT ! What do Lucas or any other guys associated with the films think of it ?
By way of a thought provoker …… Should there be any more Star Wars movies (after Jedi ? before Phantom?) just because they are what keep us alive, - - - or were the six films about Anakins rise / Darth’s fall (or vice versa) and should be left at that ?
April 7th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
I hope you kept the original PSD file you created (with seperate layers) cose this is a very good effort (I know how much time this must have taken), and with a little more effort like adding some more characters and resizing the current ones (in order of importance) this would be perfect!
April 27th, 2008 at 8:55 am
Episodes I-VI were obviously concentrated on the rise and fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker. Therefore, Lucas should bring about a new saga: VII-XII concentrating on the story of Jacen Solo and/or Ben Skywalker and the rebuilding of the New Jedi Order by Luke Skywalker.
