Officially Cool: Steve Wiebe’s Alamo Drafthouse Trailer
Movie News By Neil Miller on March 15, 2008 | (2) Comments
One of the most fun things about being at the SXSW film festival is spending copious amounts of time enjoying America’s best movie theater, the Alamo Drafthouse. One of the quirks of the Drafthouse is that before every movie they play a very creative “Turn Off Your Cell Phone” trailer, many of which include notable figures in the Austin scene. Master of the Dead George Romero did one in which he threatens to turn annoying audience members into living dead.
The following trailer was filmed when Steve Wiebe, Donkey Kong master and star of The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, by-and-large the best doc of 2007, visited Austin to attempt to reclaim the Donkey Kong world record and show his film to the faithful Austin crowd. I learned of this little trailer from my good friend Ken over at First Showing, who mentioned it in his SXSW update yesterday. For fans of King of Kong, it is a must-see.
