‘Not Quite Hollywood’ Redband Trailer Brings Ozploitation Stateside

Not Quite Hollywood

If you remember correctly, back in early September of last year we posted a trailer for a documentary about Australian exploitation (or ‘Ozploitation’) films called Not Quite Hollywood. And now, by the grace of all things good, we have another trailer — only this time, its redband. Okay, well actually that first trailer was redband as well. This one isn’t a whole lot different, but its still awesome. And I see no reason why we shouldn’t be posting up this slightly different (though mostly the same) trailer.

Any objections from the readership?

Didn’t think so.

The same cultural explosion that gave birth to Australian art classics Picnic at Hanging Rock and My Brilliant Career spawned a group of demon-children: maverick filmmakers who thumbed their noses at authority, made their own rules and in the process unleashed films such as Stork, The Adventures of Barry McKenzie, Alvin Purple, Stone, The Man from Hong Kong, Patrick and Mad Max. Across the globe, audiences applauded Aussie brutes with white line fever, well-stacked heroines and stunts unparalleled in their quality and extreme danger. NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD is the first detailed examination and celebration of the Australian genre films of the 70’s and early 80’s and the undervalued auteurs and actors who brought them to life in such an explosive way.

Not Quite Hollywood will begin its U.S. theatrical run in Los Angeles on July 31 at the Nuart theatre. For more, check out magnetreleasing.com/NotQuiteHollywood. Check out the trailer below, courtesy of IGN.

Saw it last year (its been out in Australia for a while obviously).
So many strange Australian films I've never heard of, lots of interviews with all sorts....

Despite the fact that it drags on a little bit towards the end, go see it.
  • I saw this back at TIFF. What a great little doc. Turned me on to a whole set of films I wasn't even aware existed.
  • I'm excited to check this out. Not sure if I want to see it in theaters, but definitely on home video. I feel like it will be a checklist for me of movies I have to track down and watch.
