Nicolas Cage Knows You Want to Watch the New Trailer for Knowing

Nicolas Cage in Knowing

Seriously now, Nicolas Cage needs to stop making movies.  Or at least cut back a little.  According to IMDB, Cage has seven movies slated for release in 2009.  (I’m worried as much for his health as I am for the state of the cinema of course…)  These include The Ghost, the Bad Lieutenant remake, Amarillo Slim, Electric God, The Dance, and two animated movies.  A trailer for Knowing, the first wave of Cage’s 2009 theatrical onslaught, has just been posted online and it looks amazing!

Watch the trailer in High Definition over at IGN.com.

Okay, I wasn’t sincere with the “amazing” comment, but I had to be sure you’d watch it.  It looks to be another generic thriller along the lines of Cage’s own Next, albeit without the eye-candy of blogger Jessica Biel.  A time capsule buried in a schoolyard fifty years ago contains a cryptic note that appears to predict future calamities!  As bland as the movie looks, I admit I’m intrigued by the trailer’s last line of dialogue.  They could do something interesting there… and I’ll find out when the DVD is released.

Knowing is directed by Alex Proyas, who previously made I, Robot, Dark City, and The Crow.  Proyas’ films are always visually arresting, even the ones that really aren’t that good.  (I’m looking at you Dark City.)

What do you think of the first teaser trailer for Knowing?

  • I have to say Cage sounded so detached from what I saw in the trailer. Then again maybe it
was just his failed attempt an accent. What hollywood needs to do with movies with this
type of plot is come up with a really cool explanation or as Lost does, have very compelling
character stories that drive the movie. That last line was interesting.
  • Nicolas Cage sucks. Don't see his movies. He is the worst actor ever.
  • David Andrew Garrett
Brian Rodden shut up. Comments like that make you sound like jerk. Don't see it then.
  • I gotta disagree with you, Hunter (shocking, I know). This looks solid. Not generic. I dig the math angle, although I'm a sucker for a Fibonacci sequence. And Cage looks like he's playing...Cage. At least it's not National Treasure.

Also, Dark City was amazing. When will you and I see eye to eye??
  • I agree with Brian. I don't like Nicolas Cage, but I'll tell you why I think he sucks. It's kind of in the same vein as what Cole said, the only exception being - Cage plays Cage in virtually EVERY ROLE and it's pretty annoying. Despite the accessories (hair color, glasses or no, really bad wigs or hairpieces) and wardrobe, nothing impresses me about him. The only possible exceptions would be Leaving Las Vegas and when he played Tiny E on SNL... notice a trend?
