Back in June, Marvel Studios announced that after Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, their next big project would be an adaptation of Captain America. They have also talked at great length about a Thor adaptation, and have even brought on Matthew Vaughn to direct. So what about Captain America? When’s it gonna be his time to get a director?

According to our friends at CHUD (via First Showing), his time is now. His director is rumored to be Nick Cassavetes, son of legendary actors John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands. He has previously directed She’s So Lovely, John Q, The Notebook and Alpha Dog. And with the exception of Alpha Dog, all the films on his resume are solid. John Q was very well done and The Notebook was a well-executed plague on many a date night.

Yet while Cassavetes may not be high on everyone’s list to be the man that brings Captain America to the big screen, we have to put some trust in Marvel Studios and President Kevin Fiege. The only really questionable mark on his record is Lexi Alexander and the Punisher: War Zone debacle. I mean come on, a Thomas Jane-less Punisher sequel? I’m not sold yet. As for America, this one is still in the pre-pre-production stage known as rumor-ville. It is on the Marvel calendar though, for a 2009 release.
