‘Machotaildrop’ Trailer Appears To Be Offspring Of Unholy Union Between Wes Anderson and Tony Hawk

Oh Canada. A weird and quirky land.
To be clear, neither Wes Anderson nor Tony Hawk have anything to do with the new film, Machotaildrop, but after watching the trailer you’ll see where I was going with the ‘offspring’ theory above. It’s the story of a boy, his skateboard, and… well, a bunch of weird-ass folks who live in caves and mansions? Check it out below.
Looks pretty damn odd doesn’t it? It’s impossible to predict if the movie will be good or not based solely on a trailer, but it’s really giving me a strong early Anderson vibe circa Bottle Rocket and Rushmore. (And that’s an awesome vibe to have.) The synopsis courtesy of IMDb is here:
Machotaildrop is a highly visual and fantastical journey about an amateur skateboarder, Walter Rhum, who realizes his dream of turning pro and riding for the world’s greatest skateboard company… Machotaildrop. Set in an anachronistic time and place, Machotaildrop is the greatest skateboard company of its day and the regal and grand sport of skateboarding has been thriving for many generations. Walter’s journey serves as a window through which we discover the dark underbelly of what appears at first to be a benign skateboard company.”
I can’t skateboard worth a damn, but I’m truly looking forward to this movie. It premiered at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival, but there is currently no US release date.
Thanks to Twitch for the heads up.
