Bill Maher in Religulous

Our friends over at Cinematical have unleashed the latest poster for Bill Maher’s upcoming film Religulous, which is directed by the always comedic Larry Charles (Borat, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm). Maher’s film takes on world religion, with Maher and Charles traveling the world to interview people in different countries about their religion. If youhave ever viewed Maher’s show on HBO, you know that this flick will probably be about as one-sided as any relgious documentary you will see this year. Then again, Maher does like to keep people on their toes.

Check out the poster below. Religulous hits theaters on June 20th.

  • Bill Maher is a douche-bag. I interpret the above poster as his pomposity emerging from the gaseous fumes from somebody's Taco Bell farts after eating 4th meal.
  • I'm looking forward to this as a Godless heathen, but I have to wonder if it's going to be as vacuous as Michael Moore's stuff. You can't try to be funny and wacky one minute and then do a montage of how religious extremism carries out child abuse, spousal abuse and murder in the name of old time creation.

I'd be willing to bet that Maher does it. Flying Spaghetti Monster one minute; polygamist cult child abuse the next.

This will be a great movie. It's in if people want to be religious there is just no reason as to why it becomes an issue in politics. it also should not be pressed upon people. Just think, religion in itself causes more money loss, deaths, fights, divorces, etc than any single thing one thing in america. Great that people take it seriously but it would just be nice if they were open minded and accepted what others thought. Cannot wait to see this movie.

it should read "It's fine if people" sorry about that.
  • Great PR possibilities -- old ladies discovering images of Bill Maher on potato chips; selling wood splinters from the cross Maher sees himself on; Joan of Arc burning and her last words are "Give it up for Billy"

Bush and most of the candidate spout out God and religious beliefs for (mainly) one purpose. The candidates tie God into their speeches not because God encourages believers to brag or because there are no religious freedoms, it's not because belief systems are the same or that the only religious book read in America is the Bible. The main reason most candidates bring religion into politics is because it's the only way politicians can get the full support of passionate voters who utter their name in prayer once a week (sometimes more.) They know if they can sway the church leaders they will have a strong chance to win. No ad or political group can beat the power of the church. If you know of another large group that meets once or more for one purpose please tell me.

How can this be done when the churches have non profit status? Who knows what they are doing unless a person is in the church following the pulpit's lead. Only since Palin's church videos have the masses seen what goes on in churches. One party one church choice of vote for all members.

Does that mean the church is following God's choice in leadership? Not quite since anyone can say anything to sway the vote like Bush has done. This is why it doesn't matter if Bush lies to the country or gives the bird finger on TV, or does anything against what their own God would want. If the leaders do not speak out against it ...it's as if nothing wrong happened. That is a frightening fact but is slowly being revealed. Could that be the reason why our country is going down the tubes having no leadership. Too busy pulpit pleasing with little serving of the public or their own God. When will we wake up?
