Empire has debuted two new UK posters for the upcoming Disney action adventure Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which features Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton as the Prince and his rival princess Tamina.

In the film — which is based on a classic video game created by Jordan Mechner — these two sexy, sand-blown kids of royalty team up to go after the Sands of Time, a time-controlling artifact held by the evil Nizam (Ben Kingsley). Directed by Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), Prince of Persia will be producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s next potential franchise, right in line with Pirates of the Caribbean. Fans of the video game will note that the very vogue vision of Jake Gyllenhaal in the first poster on the left is very similar to the digital prince who lives in the Ubisoft video game. As for Arterton in the poster on the right… well, if looks could kill.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is scheduled to hit theaters on May 28, 2010.

  • I think they look nice. Arteron kind of looks like Ali Larter.

    really odd choice of typeface...

I'm not saying they should go with the corny pseudo-arabic font they usually throw on these kinds of posters, but STILL...

I actually think this is a stroke of genius. It instantly elevates the movie - now they just have to follow through with a movie that's not totally cheesy.

At least I'm expecting something more from this one now. So, genius if the film delivers, and really foolish if it's something along the lines of The Mummy.

lol looks like there going with the WARRIOR WITHIN custome.

    agreed.

He looks too old for the role.

Hope its good, I think if some one else was doing it, other than Disney, it would be good, and bloody, but nope....

I actually like the font. Clean, uncluttered and as minimalistic as the B&W shot of Gyllenhaal. Strangely enough, my worry after seeing those posters is that they are trying to make the movie more "mature" than it needs to be. Sands of Time (which I guess is now the official game of the movie?) was a glorious, bloom-infested piece of Disney kitsch, and the posters don't really seem to reflect that at all...
