It’s time to start the music! The Muppets will be returning to the big screen if all goes according to plan for Jason Segel and Nick Stoller. Stoller just finished directing Segel in Forgetting Sarah Marshall in which Segel’s character Peter writes a musical about Dracula using puppets that were specially designed by the Henson crew.
According to Variety, the “experience emboldened Segel to pitch his concept for a Muppets movie.” That meeting paid off as he sold the deal to Walt Disney VP Kristin Burr in the room with plans for Stoller to direct and Segel to write.
The pair are also slated to work together again as director and star respectively for the new film Five-Year Engagement.
The Muppets were last seen in the TV movie “The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz”, and they haven’t been on the big screen since 1999′s hilarious Muppets From Space. It’s still unclear what role Brian Henson will play, if any, but he’s got his own hands full with the development of a new Dark Crystal film and a screen adaptation of childhood favorite “Fraggle Rock”.
Children of the ’80s rejoice!
Sound Off: Are you ready for another Muppets movie?
