New ‘Moon’ Trailer Will Make You Desperate to Go Home

We’ve been pitching Moon for a long time now – ever since Neil got to review it at Sundance. I got to see it at SxSW, and it blew me away. The film really is a phenomenal piece of art – poetic but entertaining enough for a broad audience. Plus, Sam Rockwell is fascinating in it, capturing the heartfelt, beautiful anger of a man who is just dying to get back to earth, to see other human beings, to hold his baby girl in his arms for the first time.

So far, it’s been hard to put into words strong enough to explain how gorgeous this film is and how good Sam Rockwell is in it, but luckily now we have moving pictures that can replace those thousand weak words.

This is a great example of the tone of the movie – the trailer definitely exhibits the unease of something going wrong right at the tail end of a massively long tour. It also carries the worry of something even darker at stake and showcases some of the fantastic shots. Also, it lets you see how cool a smiley face with Kevin Spacey’s voice can look like.

Beyond how cool Moon is, another awesome fun fact about the trailer is that erstwhile Fox film critic Roger Friedman was quoted on it – making it an awesome little cultural artifact.

Moon is scheduled to hit theaters on June 12, 2009. You can view the trailer in high definition over on IGN.

What do you think? If you aren’t excited for this movie, are you wrong? Yes, you are.

This is how Sci-fi films should be. Looks promising.

This does look like a great upcoming film. But to me it gives off a sense of an old favorite of mine. Sphere, with Sam Jackson. A journey far away where nobody can help, weird things start happening, minds play tricks

This Twilight sequel is looking good! They must've gotten my letter saying that the romance was contrived, the vampires were sissy, and the lead role was a terrible example for women. Turning it into a story of science fiction isolation and putting on the actual moon seems promising. I wonder how Stephenie Meyer will respond to these artistic changes of her initial vision.
  • This does look very good. Interested to see how it turns when he discovers his "clone". Could be a sleeper for the summer.

I got to see this at a screening Duncan Jones did at Johnson Space Center in Houston. It's not really like Sphere that much. It was amazing. And seeing it on an IMAX screen wasn't bad.
  • Is this due for wide release? Or will it only be on a select number of theaters?

The beginning of this trailer reminded my of a wonderful short story by George R.R. Martin, The Second Kind of Loneliness. It seemed to derail a bit... but I wonder if there is any connection?
