The heat is building for the next Twilight movie, and with shirtless dudes who turn into wolves, I have a feeling that the fanbase is going to be more than pleased with this newly released teaser. Seen below, it shows the story of Twilight: New Moon from the perspective of Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner. He explains the fact that Bella (Kristen Stewart) is emotionally crushed when Edward (Robert Pattinson) flees the country in an attempt to keep her out of harms way. Standing by her is Jacob, her long time friend who is transforming into a big, ripped up slice of man-meat right in front of her eyes. Little does she know that like Edward, Jacob is something beyond human and will do anything necessary to keep her safe.

Throwing aside the usual ‘Twilight is for little girls and bored soccer moms’ commentary that you’ll see on other movie websites, I would like to instead draw your attention to the fact that young Taylor Lautner appears to be doing something incredibly difficult, gaining weight and muscle to play a character who — in the book — transforms into a mammoth in a very short period of time. Props to the kid for being dedicated to a franchise that will surely launch his acting career. As for the rest of the trailer, it shows off a darker side of Twilight that I’m personally looking forward to — as the books go on, things get darker, more dangerous and (hopefully) less brooding. If director Chris Weitz can capture that, I think he’ll earn more respect from casual moviegoers than Catherine Hardwicke did with the first film. He might also leave director David Slade with a good base upon which to build a very dark, very violent third film with Twilight: Eclipse.

But that all remains to be seen. For now, lets just check out the new trailer by clicking below, courtesy of the folks at Summit Entertainment. Twilight: New Moon is in theaters November 20, 2009.

What do you think of the new Twilight trailer?
