New ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ to Open Despite Recession

Little Shop of Remakes

In news that should divide audiences, it appears that our best buds over at Shock Til You Drop have gotten the inside scoop exclusive from Declan O’Brien who claims that he’ll follow up making Wrong Turn 3 by re-upping a remake of Little Shop of Horrors.

So I imagine a few of you are rejoicing at the news – because it’s a cool story. A few of you are cursing the screen right now – because it’s an iconic story. A few of you are questioning what a shop of horrors is and how it got so small.

O’Brien got the gig after making Cyclops for Roger Corman, who was so impressed that he opened up his library of rights to the writer/director. O’Brien chose what might be the most ridiculous space-alien human-eating plant musical ever produced.

As for plot details?

I have a take on it you’re not going to expect. I’m taking it in a different direction, let’s put it that way.

As for me, as long as their are singing, murderous plants and a psychotic dentist, I’ll be satisfied. Now – who should play Seymour?

This, of course, proves the chorus girls from the movie correct. We never will stop the terror.

What do you think? Totally worth it? Or another remake that shouldn’t be remade?

lets just hope they get the ending right this time or its not worth it. the hollywood ending of the original movie was an embarrassment.

Yeah FSR likes this idea. But any Eddie Murphy movie is automaticly shot down...pathetic.
  • It's also the case that audiences automatically shoot down Eddie Murphy movies as of late. Although I a) fail to see the correlation and b) seem to remember being behind Dream Girls.

It's weird that you mention it, but Murphy as the psychotic dentist might not be a bad match....
  • I support Axl Foley and jokes about GI Joes in the bath tub and farting. I don't support Eddie Murphy in fat suits or little Eddie Murphys riding big Eddie Murphy robots.
  • As a rule I can't stand the idea of remakes in general... Steve Martin nailed the Sadistic Dentist, I don't see how anyone else could do as good a job.

Um - the original Roger Corman film is NOT a musical. The movie musical w/ Ellen Greene and Rick Moranis was written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman (who wrote the music for Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, et al) and is BASED on the original Roger Corman film. If Corman opened his rights library, it's got to be for his original NON-MUSICAL movie version. The movie musical was directed by Frank Oz.
