New Ice Age Teaser Trailer Dawns on the Internet

Ice Age 3

Despite not eating for the past four years, Scrat is still 1) alive and B) trying to get the same effing acorn he’s been hunting every since Everybody was Loving Raymond and Raymond was lending his voice to the giant woolly mammoth. Seems like ice ages ago.

Because it was. And now, there’s a new teaser trailer that’s more teaser than trailer for Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. More Scrat than actual movie:

You can also watch the Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs teaser trailer in High Definition on Apple.com.

In a way, this franchise is a lot like Scrat – constantly searching for that nut but not quite finding it. At least not after the last outing. The sequel, for the few that saw it, was pretty terrible. At least it didn’t have half the heart that the first film did, but hopefully this latest film will regain a little bit of the magic the first film had.

I understand the idea of leading with Scrat, but it’s also a major cop out. We get it. He’s cute and wacky and oh-look-he’s-still-foolishly-hunting-for-that-goddamned-acorn, but it seems like a major red flag when the lead off trailer has nothing to do with your movie. Fox, call me when you have an actual trailer that gives us some idea as to what the film will be about. Unless the film is two hours of Scrat hanging out with Dinosaurs who happen to be Dawning. That’s all I can gather from the title.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs will feature the return of the franchise’s original voice cast, including Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo and Queen Latifah. It also sees the return of director Carlos Saldanha. It is scheduled to hit theaters on July 1, 2009.

What do you think? What can you gather? Are you impressed or excited about this movie? What would be like to Dawn? How does one dawn? I think I did it once, but I stubbed a toe and had to stop.

  • scrat is really the biggest reason i like these movie. scratch that . the only reason i like the movies. that little sabertooth rat is hilarious.

    he's a junkie
  • Denis Leary was badass in Recount!
  • That trailer is actually pretty funny. These movies aren't the most memorable animated films, but they are fun enough. Good for the kiddies with a few dashes of adult-level humor. That, and I will see anything in which Denis Leary is involved. Its a rule that I live by.
  • You know, I liked the first one in a "this isn't as bad as I thought it'd be" kind of way (since it came about in the giant CG boom where any studio with a computer was churning them out), and was probably fooling myself when I thought "this movie works really well as a lone movie, gosh I hope they don't make sequels".

They did and it sucked. I have no hope whatsoever for this one. If it turns out to be almost good, I'll be surprised.
  • I like the Scrat segments. they remind me of looney tunes.
  • I still have no idea how old that ice is, you'd think they'd tell us by now.

... The title confuses me... They're only off by, what 60 million years?
  • Um... You do know that this movie is made for kids, right?? The producers don't give a sabertoothed rat's a$$ about whether or not the trailer lets you know what the movie is about. They just know that 4 year olds will watch the trailer and then beg and scream until their parents take them to see the movie. They are marketing to kids. Because it's a movie for kids.

From my recollection, all of the teaser trailers for this franchise have been Scrat-heavy shorts. So, this is really just keeping the norm.

I love Scrat. he's my wallpaper, and I watched IA for IA, but Scrat was something I looked forward to. I love trailer! You just can't help feeling sorry for the little guy, but you know that if he gets the acorn, it will all be over. So, they're not leading with something from the main plot of the movie. If the sideline story captures your interest this well, the main storyline should be outstanding.
