New ‘Hurt Locker’ Poster Gives Us Need for New Metaphors

So far as I can tell, there are only two ways that we here at Reject HQ can describe Kathryn Bigelow’s Iraq war actioner The Hurt Locker: intense and explosive. This brand new poster, which was released today by Summit Entertainment, is yet again, both. Prior to writing this article I tried to come up with a better headline than “New Hurt Locker Poster Explodes,” but I just couldn’t.

As any faithful FSR reader should know by now, The Hurt Locker follows an explosive ordinance disposal team during the final months of their tour in the current Iraq war. Led by strong performances from Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie and Brian Geraghty, The Hurt Locker has been called the “best film of 2009″ by more than a few of the folks on the payroll here in Rejectville. Its a damn fine film that draws its audience in and never lets go — the kind of action film that grabs you by the balls and puts you, as a Nick Nolte character may have said once, “in the shit.”

The Hurt Locker hits theaters on June 26, 2009 in limited markets. Check out the brand new poster below (click to enlarge).

After you watched it, did you agree that was the BEST title for the film? I never would have gone to see it, had you fine folks at REJECT not raved about it!

I love the title of this film, however I did not love the film. It was a decent movie (6/10..maybe a 7 but that's pushing it). It has some great writing, directing, and acting but it didn't feel like the satisfying movie I was expecting. Honestly the more posts I keep on seeing about this movie the less I understand the hype around the film. It was a good DECENT flick, no more, no less. It's not a masterpiece so I don't get why it's getting the movie fan site love its been receiving all over the place. In another writer and director's hands the topic of this film could have been something really special, instead it feels "meh". Oh yea, I don't like the tag line.
