New Harry Potter Trailer Mixes Silliness with Intesity
Movie Marketing By Scott Beggs on November 14, 2008 | (16) Comments
So after pushing back the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I suppose Warner Brothers thinks they can substitute having fans see the actual movie around this time of year by releasing a few trailers. The latest one just dropped on the scene, and, as much as I’m hyped about the film itself, I’m not exactly hyped about the trailer.
There has been criticism from the super-fans in years past that the movie’s can’t balance school like at Hogwart’s and the danger of Harry’s world, but from the trailer, it appears as if Half-Blood Prince is going to make a go of it.
Check it out for yourself:

So we get a ton of dark images, Ron looking like he huffed paint, Malfoy being angsty in front of a mirror, Harry battling an unshown coward, girls flirting with Potter because he’s the Chosen One and (finally) some more Quidditch.
In a way, that’s awesome. I’ve been wondering how to bring this novel to the screen, because it seems like a major transition just before the final chapter – Ron taking over as the popular focus at school, Harry beginning a personal journey with Dumbeldore to find out who The Dark Lord is, and the major mystery of the book being who a text book belonged to. So it’s good to see David Yates throwing that all at us – not forsaking the schoolwork for the adventure – but it has me nervous for the movie itself since past attempts at marrying both things haven’t turned out as stellar.
What do you think? Still hyped? Love the trailer? Hate it? Are you the Half-Blood Prince? Is that what the mean kids called you in middle school? Me too.
