The folks at Empire have unleashed the first international poster for Paramount’s upcoming toy line adaptation G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and to say the least it is certainly a tale of two colors.

On the top of the poster — which can be seen below — we get the sexy evil doers, including Sienna Miller as The Baroness and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander. If I’m correct, this is the first time we’ve really gotten a clear, official look at Cobra Commander. First impression: he looks silly, but so does this movie. In the bottom half of the poster we see Rachel Nichols as Scarlett, along with some other guys who don’t really matter. In fact, I’m not sure why the poster designer didn’t put Rachel Nichols in the forefront of the good guys — who are they trying to sell this movie to?

Have a look at the poster for yourself below. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra hits theaters on August 7, 2009.

    Two taglines is two much..
  • How do you create a poster that evokes neither the look or the feel of G.I.Joe? See above.

This is barely a G.I. Joe film. They could have easily called it "Special Ops" or something and nobody would know the difference.

I think all the CGI that Sommers relies on is gonna be the undoing of this film. It'll probably have a crappy story too but, anyone remember how much fun Deep Rising or the Mummy was? Lots of practical effects and good use of CGI. After those films, he got the big bucks and put out crappy super-heavy overdone CGI bombs like Mummy II and Van Helsing. Oh yeah, and this poster blows too!
  • I fully agree bro!
