When you think of director Roland Emmerich, what comes to mind? Universal Soldier? Moon 44? Alright, maybe not. But he was the director who brought us films like Independence Day, Godzilla (the one with Matthew Broderick) and The Day After Tomorrow. His next project, 10,000 B.C., is the very Apocalypto-like journey back to a time when big wooly mammoths roamed the Earth and man was in his first stages of civilization. The epic tale follows a young mammoth hunter’s journey through uncharted territory to secure the future of his tribe. Or at least, that is what IMDB Pro has to say about it.

I can say one thing, though. The mammoth stars of the film were created in the creature shop of Patrick Tatopoulus, who is responsible for some brilliant work, including the upcoming Will Smith thriller I Am Legend and both of the Underworld flicks. One thing is for sure, this film will be on a grand scale. To illustrate, we present to you the first teaser poster, courtesy of our friends at Warner Brothers.

10,000 B.C. is set for a March 7, 2008 release. It stars Steven Strait (The Covenant) and Camilla Belle (The Quiet).
