Neill Blomkamp Already Taking Credit For His Next Film
Movie News By Bethany Perryman on October 24, 2009 | (6) Comments
The bar is set high, and the world awaits Neill Blomkamp‘s next move. Will he order pizza? Will he have a brew? Will he make another movie? He should, I’m sure he will, and yes. Yes!
According to the folks over at Variety, there’s a new Neill Blomkamp feature in the works. With QED CEO Bill Block producing (he was the first to commit funds to District 9), the yet-untitled sci-fi film will begin production next year. MRC committed to the project based on Blomkamp’s pitch, and will give the South African filmmaker complete creative control.
Already starting to write and figure out the special effects, Blomkamp tells Daily Variety that “MRC is letting me make the film I want to make, and that is by far the most important thing here. The film will hopefully be commercial, but it is very much a singular film, (one) that comes directly from me.”
He’s already claiming all the credit, so we’re pretty sure that it’s an out-there concept and we’re hoping it’ll be good. A runaway summer sci-fi hit and FSR 2009 favorite, District 9 set the bar insanely high, which Blomkamp — under the wing of Peter Jackson, made for less than $30 million. The film grossed $184+ million worldwide.
