First it was a book, then it was another book, now it’s going to be a movie. And right off the bat, it’s getting some star power. Seth Grahame-Smith’s hilariously titled book Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has been optioned by Lionsgate, says Variety. There it will become a movie produced by and starring Natalie Portman.

The book follows the original Jane Austen work, adding zombies to the mix. The story, as you probably know, is the timeless tale of a woman’s quest for love and independence — amid the breakout of a deadly virus that reanimates the dead and turns them into bloodthirsty killing machines.

Portman is set to play Elizabeth Bennet, who is busy killing zombies when that Mr. Darcy guy arrives.

As much as I’ve heard the book isn’t as good as its title and concept, I still think this could make for a fun movie — if adapted correctly. No writer has been announced as of yet.

  • Thanks for the nice post. She is really killer I must say. So much beautiful . I like her face and smile very much . Thanks.
  • Listened to the Audio Book - it's actually not as shit as you'd think. If they play it to the energy level the chick doing the reading did, it'll work. All the eastern martial arts training is pure pulpy goodness and informs the moral codes of the characters more than the Jane Austen social mores. The Ninja devastation scene alone will be worth the price of a ticket if it plays true to the text.

I read the book on the plane on the way back from London at the beginning of November...and I thought it was good...not great, but certainly an enjoyable read. I think my wife may be reading it now, although I don't think she's digging it all that much.

As for a movie version...well...Natalie Portman is beautiful and talented. She'd make a decent Elizabeth Bennet. I just hope the screenplay can to the story some justice.
  • i love Natalie and she wants to eff me too...she said so on SNL

I've read the first few chapters of the book and it's definitely a novelty. I love Jane Austen and Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book - I also love zombies - mixing them together is funny, but it is definitely odd reading the book with the changed text. Natalie Portman signing on the movie version I think is awesome.
