Natalie Portman Does Horror in Suspiria Remake?

Bloody Disgusting is reporting a rumor that Natalie Portman’s production company, Handsome Charlie Films, will be producing the upcoming remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria. The report also says Portman will star in the role played by Jessica Harper in the original. The film follows an American ballet student who heads to a school in the European mountains only to find gruesome murders and mutilations in place of tutus and ballet slippers. Suspiria is Argento’s most popular film, and is known for its beautifully grisly murder set pieces, a rocking synthesizer score by Goblin, and the fact that it makes very little sense.
This rumor would have sounded strange a few months back before indie auteur turned weed action movie maverick, David Gordon Green, was announced to direct the remake. Now it feels utterly believable. After seeing Pineapple Express I know Green can do great things with a budget over the two thousand dollars he’s used to, and I’ll watch Portman in anything. So needless to say, if this rumor proves true, the Suspiria remake just got a whole lot more appealing.
