Must See Trailer: Alan Ball’s Towelhead
Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on April 24, 2008

Reelz Channel has released the first trailer for American Beauty director Alan Ball’s film Towelhead, which has been making its way around the festival circuit. It premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival under the title Nothing is Private, but was then retitled and played considerably well at Sundance this year.
This film was one of the truly great surprises at Sundance this year. It tells the story of Jasira (Summer Bishil), a 13-year old Lebanese-American girl who is sent to live with her strict father (Peter Macdissi) right as she is beginning to go through her own sexual awakening. All of the sudden, she gets caught up in an odd relationship with one of her neighbors, played by Aaron Eckhart, a bigoted, child-touching Army reservist.
It is one of those films that is sometimes funny, often disturbing and incredibly engrossing, right in line with Alan Ball’s previous works such as the Academy Award winning American Beauty or the TV show “Six Feet Under”. Peter Macdissi and Aaron Eckhart deliver fantastic performances, along with the always good Toni Collette. If you were one of those people who found American Beauty to be deeply engrossing, you will find much of the same with Towelhead.
Have a look at the trailer below. Towelhead hits theaters in limited release on August 8th.
This trailer has been removed at the request of Warner Brothers. It was really good though, we promise.

Actually, Sam Mendes directed American Beauty. Alan Ball wrote it.
