We are responsible for ourselves. Nobody is going to come in and save us from our own mistakes. Maybe the movie is trying to get at that too. I thought Klaatu was a robot in the old one even though I'm definitely someone of a younger generation who hasn't seen the original. I'm tempted now to rent the original. Klaatu looks way too humanoid for my taste. All I remember in popular footage from the original The Day the Earth Stood Still is the robot sending a death ray of destruction or something that sent humans running. Yeah, its redundant.
