More Navigational Excellence!

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on May 3, 2006

Features! Features! Features!

That is what I bring to you this morning. Ever since the “big move” took place, the die-hard Film School Rejects fans (all 3 of you) have spoken out in favor of some of the better features of the old homepage. Thankfully you all did not threaten to leave, so it gave me some time to devise a plan or two in order to bring back the functionality without all of the pain and agony of Movable Type. With that said, I am proud to bring you three features that have kept me up until 5 in the morning:

  • The New “Fancy” Navigation panel on the bottom of every page! Just scroll down to check it out. There you will not only find the two columns of Movie News from our favorite sources, but you will now also find two lists: One of the last 10 Movie Reviews that we have written and one of the last 10 DVD reviews that we have written. It should make it easier for you to find out if the most recent releases are crappy or not.[Editor's Note: The fancy navigational panel has only lasted less than 48 hours (What? I change my mind a lot. That's how I roll.) It has been replaced by the secondary sidebar to the right (just below the original sidebar.) This should make it so all of you internet geriatrics don't have to scroll all the way down and strain yourselves to see our most recent reviews.]
  • Secondly, as our archives grow with more and more movie reviews and editorials (we are fast approaching 500 posts in 3 months) we wanted to give our readers a way to very quickly and easily sift through the piles of opinion. Thus we have added the new Google Search bar at the top of the content section. This will allow you to either search for something on our site, or search for something on the web. Pretty neat, eh?
  • And finally, the coolest feature of all. Within each review page you will notice the addition of a “Related Articles” section right above where the comments section begins. This will list the 8 most relevant posts to the one you are looking at (Brian’s United 93 Review has a good example of how this works.)

Hopefully all of our readers will enjoy these upgrades, as they make the site a little bit easier to navigate. Just another way we are striving to bring you the web’s best movie website experience…
