Monday Morning Movie Buzz

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on February 27, 2006

The Monday Morning Buzz Machine is hard at work this week, bringing you a recap of Hollywood’s biggest and brightest news from the past weekend, with a little touch of Oscar mixed in for good measure. So without further ado, here is your news, ya savages:

       Oscar Related:

  • Brokeback Shirts sell big: Digital Spy (and everyone else under the sun) is talking about how the shirts from Brokeback Mountain sold at an Auction for more than $100,000. Unless it was Heath Ledger’s real blood, I wouldn’t pay more than $20 for that Canadian tuxedo.
  • Let the countdown begin:Monsters and Critics are talking about the countdown to Oscar.
  • Don’t forget to thank Mom: M&C is also talking about the speeches, and the preparation that “doesn’t occur.”
  • Cinematical Predictions: Cinematical plays “Pin the Oscar on the Donkey,” a new game to hit shelves this spring…

       Other Buzz:

  • Braff looking for more: /Film is reporting this weekend that Garden State writer/director Zach Braff is working on his next film. It is an adaption of a foreign film. It will most likely be very good, as was his debut.
  • Linklater speaks: Director Richard Linklater is talking to Cinematical about his next acid-trip of a film, A Scanner Darkly.
  • Dobkin quits the Gay Firemen Film: Someone at Universal just ruined I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry starring Adam Sandler and Kevin James. Due to “creative differences” Director David Dobkin has left the project. And with him goes the edge the film will need in order to achieve lasting success.
  • Spiderman is Back in Black: The Movie Blog was one of the first to show the new picture from Spiderman 3, displaying Spidey in his new “formal attire.” A very cool photo, to say the least.

This has been your expertly crafted, and scoured for news of the week. Check back every Monday for more…

Monday Morning Movie Buzz

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on February 20, 2006

The soon to be regular Monday Morning Buzz Machine is hard at work this week, bringing you a recap of Hollywood’s biggest and brightest news from the past weekend. So without further ado, here is your news, ya savages:

  • The Bourne Sequels: Craig’s Movie Blog is talking the future of the Jason Bourne series. Apparently there is more than just one more to come.
  • A Bond Villian is named: I Watch Stuff, one of my favorite blogs, reporting that Mads Mikkelson has joined the cast of the new Bond flick, Casino Royale. Also on the Bond front, Eva Green is the new bond girl.
  • Captain America Writer Revealed: The Captain America project now has a writer, David Self. Rock on!
  • Ben Affleck as a Director?: Bridget Monaghan and younger bro Casey Affleck have signed on to star in big brother Ben’s directorial debut, described here by Monster’s and Critics:

‘Gone, Baby Gone’ is based on the Dennis Lehane novel of the same name and was adapted by Ben Affleck. The story revolves around two Boston private eyes who investigate a missing child in a neighborhood of broken families, bitter cops and crazy ex-cons. Monaghan and Casey Affleck, who is Ben`s brother, will play the private detectives.

  • Brokeback to the Future: Here is a slightly random link that is making a huge buzz in the world of film websites. We didn’t want our few readers to feel left out.
  • Brian Fantana!: Paul Rudd has signed on to the cast of Reno 911: Miami. Bring the sex panther!
  • Studios Cut back on UMD Movies: This may hurt for Staff Writer Brian, but the movie studios have made plans to cut back production on UMD movies. They will still be making comedies, so not all is lost, but look for less and less as the success of UMD will probably go down faster than Beta.

This has been your expertly crafted, and scoured for news of the week. Check back every Monday for more…
