There’s something strange about these new images that a Mouse left on our doorstep, but I can’t quite my finger on it. Maybe it’s the minimalist style that’s rarely done for main characters. Maybe it’s the color choices that Miyazaki and team Ghibli are making. Maybe it’s the fact that they were delivered by a mouse.

Still, they are really beautiful I think. But you should decide for yourself. Stop letting me tell you how to live your life:

It’s definitely a different look, although there’s still a few tell-tale Miyazaki style points – specifically in the image with the whale rider in the ocean and the close-up of the two children’s faces.

Ponyo opens in limited markets on August 14th.
